Herbert O. McDowell III is president and CEO of UFG, which he founded in 1990. His career spans more than four decades in the insurance and financial services industries, beginning as a group representative for New York Life. Later he held leadership positions with Monumental Life and with Frank B. Hall & Co., a major New York-based employee benefits marketing company.

A marketer by experience and inclination, Herb honed his administrative talents through his leadership responsibilities, and his negotiating skills as an officer of Preferred Care Network, where he negotiated with hospitals on behalf of member unions.

Active with the Boy Scouts of America and Rotary International, Herb is a past president of the Wilmette Harbor, Illinois Rotary Club.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Lake Forest College and has served that institution as an alumni trustee.

Peter R. McDowell is vice president of UFG, where he oversees the firm’s efforts in sales, marketing, proposal generation, and recruiting independent producers across the country. He also is responsible for strategic planning and running the day-to-day operations of the firm. A frequent speaker at sales seminars and webinars, Peter joined UFG in 2003.

Prior to that Peter was an account executive at global advertising agencies, FCB and Element 79 Partners.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University.
